CSA z462: Canadian Arc Flash Code

At the time of this writing, arc flash is regulated in Canada under federal and provincial "general duty" clauses making employers responsible for employee safety. Canada does not have a code specifying safe work practices regarding arc flash.

The Canadian Standards Association (CSA), in association with the NFPA, is in the process of creating an arc flash safety standard. The code will be called CSA-z462 and is scheduled for release in December 2008/January 2009. CSA-z462 will be based on NFPA 70E, with changes to reflect Canadian legal requirements and workplace conditions. The CSA code is intended to be compatible with NFPA 70E.

We will offer more information as it becomes officially available.
