IEC 60298: European Arc Flash Code
The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a non-profit institution responsible for establishing electrical standards throughout the world (in the U.S., the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) contributes to the development of IEC standards). Various countries implement IEC codes to different degrees.
IEC 60298 contains the equivalent of American NFPA and IEEE standards, and is followed throughout Europe and much of the rest of the world. Since electrical system design in Europe differs greatly from U.S. design, it is difficult to make direct comparisons between the codes. For more information, visit the IEC Web site.
